January, 2018 Member of the Month: Julia Bird

Tell us a little bit about yourself? (family, where you are from, etc)

I am 22 years old and have lived in Romeoville all my life. I have a family of 5 including two sisters; one younger and one older. I am very lucky to have a nephew who is 1.5 years old and another niece/nephew on the way. I am a nurse, just graduated last May, and my dream job is to work in pediatrics.

How did you get started in CrossFit?

I happened to be scrolling around on Facebook when I saw an ad for the New You 6 week program. I decided since I was graduating school it was time for me to get into better shape to start my new career out with a positive vibe. I found out this was the same box my aunt was coming to and she absolutely loved it so I gave it a shot. Robby coached me for the first six weeks and I was instantly hooked and wanted to do more so I signed up for another six weeks. After these twelve weeks I already started to notice changes not only with weight loss, but with my performance in the gym too. Now I am addicted to CrossFit and everything it has to offer.

What are your favorite movements to do during a WOD?

Currently my favorite movements are power cleans and anything to do with the pull-up bar. Hopefully soon I will be able to get my first pull-up!

What do you love best about CrossFit?

The first thing that comes to mind is how everything is adaptable to your own level, but every workout is hard and you are able to keep pushing yourself. There is just something so satisfying about competing with yourself to PR, and lets be honest… throwing around heavy weights is too much fun! Everyday you walk in and there is a different workout or new skill so you never get bored. Not to mention the environment at South Naperville Strength is amazing. Everyone always has a smile on their face, trainers are amazing at teaching you technique and encouraging you through tough workouts, and it really does feel like you are part of a family!

When you’re not in the gym busting your butt, what is your favorite things to do?

You can usually find me drawing some portraits, watching T.V, or going out with friends.
